Don't bother... (2009-07-01)
First, no good content and won't be for a while. Wait till price drop.
Second, requires DVD in drive to start, contrary to what the original Spore DRM hooplah was supposed to be a feature with... now you have the DRM from Spore AND have to load the DVD anyways.
New Icon to use for the expansion, that looks retarded, (stupid thing to ding, but I don't want two launchers for one game anyways.) Spore icon doesn't load GA content.
Final thoughts,
A for effort, D for execution. Not integrating it with Spore directly and requiring the DVD in the drive breaks the Spore experience into two groups... those with DRM but no DVD switching to play, and those with DRM and thier DVD required to be on hand to play. If I could return it I would. I tend to shelve games that ask me for the DVD every time I want to play them and requiring the DVD in the drive defeats the casual "turn it on and play for a bit dynamic that I liked." I suppose I could have bought it from a digital download source, but oh well. You can't, like all Spore products, it seems, register it on the EA Download manager, so if you buy the disc you better not loose it or your keys because you have NO way of replacing them if you do. Why require install of the EA download Manager if you can't even use it with Spore? (probably for EA to advertise more games on your computer.) Anyways, Spore's a great game... go buy that and creepy and cute, and if you don;t mind having to have two separate icons for Spore and having the DVD in to play it, then I guess you can get this. Otherwise... don't bother.
Another Love By My Kids... (2009-06-30)
My girls love Spore so I got them the Creepy and Cute and this expansion pack when it came out and they love all of them. Didn't want to waste the money on this game, as I feel it's a rip off for a PC game. But they earned it and it's on their PC not mine. So they give it 5 stars and say it's totally awesome!
Spore is an adventure (2009-06-29)
Game is good, but you have to insert the disk to play it the game every time. That's basically my issue. Other than that, it's almost like the original Spore, except that the Space stage is enhanced to do "beam down" missions, new space gear, and making and playing adventures is a challenge and I like a good challenge.
The Creature stage meets the Space stage. (2009-06-29)
That sums it up for you.
Ill get it out of the way and say YES this does, no surprise, have DRM but i bought this to support maxis, not EA.
If your not happy with working to get your game to work then stop reading and remove this from your cart. First it updates to v1.04, which i couldn't start because of a run time error. That was fixed when i found a fix on the forums though. Then it wanted my DVD or it would not start, I have no idea why though. I put it in ther,e fiddled with some stuff and finally by the grace of God it started.
On to the game itself. The mission creating is fairly powerful, and yes you can make some really neat stuff. Then again all of spores user created content has great editors. Getting a basic mission working is easy. However making it actually good takes time. Settings unit paths, placing trees and objects is all done one at a time.
Should you wish to play some maxis created levels, most require you to use one of their characters and nothing else. Now it does suck but they want the match to be fair and challenging.
If you want to play a Community created level (which so far they suck, but a good one will take time) dont get used to the luxury of dragging them from the website to your folder (if you do that). You MUST go through GA to do this.
One last thing i must mention is this uses a different file to start with. If you start from your basic spore.exe and dont see anything, there is another icon you should use.
Overall Good expansion with DRM and terrible problems.
Looks Great! Actually working, problem. (2009-06-29)
I saw that a new SPORE expansion, Spore Galactic Adventures was coming out in january. I was so excited, I checked the news on this game a lot and then they postponed it two more months. I was disappointed but I was still excited. Then, they postponed it again! Another month! I couldn't believe it! But I actually still checked the news a lot. Then it finally came out and I got it three days after the release date! I was so excited and happy it finally came! Then I put it in my Mac and I figured out how to install it and it installed. Then I opened Galactic Adventures and it came up with a error message and I clicked yes to debug it. I tried again, the same thing. I tried clicking no, the same thing. I kept contacting EA support and I probably spent four hours in all trying to get it to work. But it never did! I was so disappointed I thought to myself, "This game, it looks great and fun, then it doesn't work!" I couldn't believe it! All that waiting and news checking and this is what I get! Come on.
