The Main Causes Of Hair Loss In Women

When you think of hair loss it's natural to assume that it's a condition that predominantly affects men. Some experts however suggest that as many as one in four women will experience hair loss at some time in their lives. So why don't we see and hear more about it? Perhaps the answer has something to do with one or more of the following:
- Women are better at disguising hair loss.
- Women's hair loss is generally less extensive in terms of severity.
- Women's hair loss tends to be spread evenly over the head rather than concentrated in one or two spots.
So why do women lose hair - are the causes very different to those that result in male baldness? There are probably three common reasons for hair loss in women:
1. Female pattern baldness - believe it or not, most women affected by hair loss lose it for the same reasons as men. They suffer from androgenetic alopecia which is a reaction to male hormones in the body, specifically the conversion of testosterone into the hair-unfriendly DHT. In the case of women, pattern baldness may start later and the effects may be less extreme due to the influence of female hormones, but the condition is nonetheless the same as that found in male pattern baldness.
2. Telogen effluvium - this is regarded as the second most common cause of women's hair loss and this is unsurprising given the nature of the condition. Telogen effluvium is characterized by a general thinning of the hair and is usually brought about as a result of some traumatic event causing sufficient stress to interfere with the normal hair growth cycle. Given that pregnancy is a prime example of the type of event that can shock the hair growth cycle then perhaps the high incidence of telogen effluvium amongst women is only to be expected.
3. Alopecia areata - this is the third most common hair loss condition to affect women. It is characterized by patchy areas of hair loss on the head or it can be more widespread over the body. It is thought to be caused by deficiencies in the immune system but much is still not known about the condition. In many cases the hair regrows spontaneously after a variable period of time, but in a minority of cases the problem may be more severe and longstanding.
If you experience any form of hair loss arrange to visit your physician to discuss the treatments that may be suitable for your particular condition.

Planning a Baby Shower From the Ground Up

When Should the Shower Happen?

It becomes an important question to ask, not to mention, to answer. And as usual, there are some different viewpoints on when you should contain the baby shower celebration. Fortunately, however, these views aren't as debatable because they sometimes are when it comes to whether a family member or non-relative should hold the baby shower (as we discussed above). So don't worry; this is a rather simple and easy, straightforward challenge to solve

Now, the actual problem here's simply that there isn't a definite response to the question: when should the shower happen? The answer to this will more often than not depend on factors which are specific towards the mother-to-be, the guests, along with other issues.

So instead of providing a "one-size-fits-all" answer here - which is something which we can't do without knowing the details of your particular baby shower - let's just consider the variables. Knowing these, you'll easily be able to determine once the baby shower celebration should be held.

The Mother-to-Be

We begin with mother-to-be. She may judgemental about when the shower ought to be held; and this preference should be heeded. The father-to-be might also provide input here, that is wonderful and really should be part of the overall decision-making process (we take a closer look at "couples" baby-showers afterwards in this book).

What kinds of things might influence a mother-to-be's preference on once the shower ought to be held? Some of them prefer to have the shower when they're showing; they might feel that there's something more appropriate (for lack of a better word) about holding a shower when people can in fact see that a baby is on the way.

In practical terms, this means that a shower may be held well into the second trimester, or into the third.

Your guests

As everyone knows, December is really a season for parties and events; both business, and private. As a result, it might be polite to not hold the baby shower celebration during "party season", as it might influence whether people could attend (or have the ability to relax once they attend, because they do not have three more "get togethers" to go to after the baby shower!).

Furthermore, if you live inside a wintry climate, it may be a pleasant idea not to possess the baby shower celebration within the dead of winter. True, life does continue in the center of January and people start working and do most of the stuff that they want to do (shop, visit restaurants, and so on), but when it makes simply no difference to you and also the mother-to-be (and/or the father-to-be) if the baby shower celebration is held in late January or late April, then it might be advisable to select the second; simply for climate concerns.

Review Halo Innovations Sleepsack Wearable Blanket, Barnyard, X Large

Halo Innovations Sleepsack Wearable Blanket, Barnyard, X Large Best Review

i decided to order this instead of the aden and anaias sleeping bag. (and we love aden and anaias swaddlers). after reading some reviews that the aden and anaias sleeper is somewhat flimsy and more expensive, i decided on the halo version. it is cheaper and very well made. i put my son in it almost every night (except when it is in the wash) with just a diaper underneath. it is great for summer nights in the cool air conditioning. i have been using it regularly for about 2 months now. it holds up great in the wash and has not faded. it is very roomy too. my 6 month old it about 17 lbs. and i think he will be able to wear the medium size till he is over 1 year old. i am very pleased.

Love it! - K. Weaver - Montana
We are on our third size of Halo sleep sacks and love them! My daughter can't wait to get into hers at night. This particular one is very light weight so has been great for the warm summer.

All cotton, no fire retardant chemicals - robyn -
Our son started sleeping in these at 6 months old when he was too strong to be swaddled anymore. As long as he's in long sleeves and footie pajamas, the weight of this is enough to keep him warm. The reverse zipper is hard to get used to at first, but you get the hang of it. We have the medium, and at 30" and nearly 24 pounds, he's just now to the point that we're considering ordering the next size up. I love that the fabric does not contain any fire retardant chemicals because they've been linked with SIDS-- we also ordered a mattress wrap from New Zealand to make sure that he wasn't breathing any off-gassing fire retardant chemicals.

Great for Toddlers, Too - Erin D. - Iowa
We have used these halo blankets for many years. Our daughter is almost 2 and prefers to sleep in her sack instead of a blanket. Plus, it helps to keep her from climbing out of the crib!

Review Kiddopotamus Elite Duomat 2 in 1 Car Seat Protector Mat

Kiddopotamus Elite Duomat 2 in 1 Car Seat Protector Mat Best Review

This is actually my second one of these. As I have leather in all my vehicles, I was worried that the car seat would dig into the leather and cause permanent indentions. I found that because of its thick padding it really cuts down on leaving marks from the car seat. Although, no car seat protector will keep your vehicle free of indentions when the car seat is installed properly, this does a pretty good job. It has a handy pocket in the front to keep small items as well. Because it is a thick padding it can be somewhat difficult to install the car seat because it does not fold and give as much. However, if you do not remove the car seat often it is not a big deal. Also, to protect your vehicle it is a small price to pay. This is well worth the money.

Damaged my seats more than any kid could - Nicholas Johnson - Miami, FL USA
I got this for my brand new car, leather seats, to protect it from my two kids, one age five, the other two. They would occasionally drop some crackers or worst case scenario juice on the seat and I didn't want all that getting ground into the seat and the crevices that I couldn't vacuum out. What I didn't expect was the sticky-seat side of the mat to melt into my leather seats and glue itself to the seat. After pulling it off there is still plastic residue all over the bottom of the seat and no cleaner I've tried will fix it. I've since taken a bath towel, cut it in half, and put each half under the seats.
Wait for a sale on bath towels and you can protect your seat for about each, not whatever these cost now. Plus, you won't ruin your brand new seats.

For those who will wonder, its a Ford Fusion, black paint, black leather, in Miami, FL, so yeah, its hot, but that should have been considered when this was developed. Since thrown away.

Nice idea - R. Lopez - San Diego, CA
This is a great product! It fits nicely under the car seat and is non-slip so the seat is still really safe. It covers the whole area that the car seat touches the car (and I have a big car seat) and I am no longer concerned about my son's car seat damaging my car. I definitely recommend this for anyone with a car seat (forward or rear facing) who doesn't want any damage on their seats.

Great Car Seat Protector - mv2930 -
We were looking for a car seat protector to protect the back leather seats in our new car. We read that this one got great reviews and so far we agree with all of them. It's thick enough so that when you really tighten your car seat so it won't move, your seats are protected. And we liked this one because it was high enough to protect the back part of the seat - our old one was lower and thus our old car got permanent indentations near the head rest. Definitely a good buy for those looking to protect your seats.

I didn't get what I ordered - Nordy Lopez -
This ad is deceiving because when you order it you expect to receive a Kiddopotamus brand seat protector in the mail. This was not the case. I received a Summer Elite Duomat instead and later read here that Summer bought out Kiddopotamus. I am just not happy with getting a different brand product than the one I originally thought I was going to get... is it really the same product?

Lovin' Desitin - Kiesha Murray -
I just love this product. My son is 13 months and has yet to have a diaper rash. The price is high, so I try to buy in bulk whenever I can. Great product.

Not true Desitin, but nice alternative - Soni - Sacramento, CA
Doesn't have the Zinc protectant, but actually it's a nice alternative to have around for diaper bag (less messy), to use as lube (for rectal temps/suppositories), and for hand lotion in a pinch. Also smells good. :)

The BEST diaper ointment on the market. - A. Gift For You - PA
I've used Desitin CLear Ointment on my daughter since she was born and she has never had a diaper rash. Plus you can use it on minor cuts & scrapes.

Need to know ingredients - nonpariel - rural New England, USA
When I find the time, I will locate this product in a drugstore and read the ingredient list. Allergies are common, especially allergy to forms of perfume. The customer needs to know what is in a product - I would think that would be completely obvious to any retailer, so why doesn't Amazon require ingredient listing?

Georgia Child Support Enforcement

Separation or divorce is never easy on any of the parties involved. But it can be especially difficult if the non custodial parent is avoiding his responsibility of paying court ordered child support. If you happen to live in the state of Georgia and are having issues collecting the child support due to your child, you can receive assistance from the Georgia Child Support Enforcement Services.

There is a website created for parents to visit which does a reasonably good job of answering most commonly asked questions regarding who to contact. There is also contact information available. You can get to this information by visiting Georgia.gov. Some of your questions can actually be answered right on the Georgia Child Support Enforcement Services website.

One of the more impressive websites is The Child Support Web. com. This site links you to state child support offices, regional child support offices, as well as showing you child support guidelines. There is also information listed on deadbeat parents and how to collect the child support owed. This website is a goldmine of information regarding not only Georgia Child Support Enforcement Services, but all other states, as well. You will also find articles relevant to collection methods and how to find attorneys.

These two websites provided the most information regarding Georgia Child Support Enforcement Services and this information was free as well as the services performed. There are also other organizations set up to help collect any back child support money owed to you, but there is usually a fee associated with these agencies. Supportkids.com is one such organization. These people seem quite dedicated to helping you collect your over due child support, but there is a fee for their services. It is based on contingency from the money they collect on your behalf. You will not have any out of pocket fees to utilize this service. The fees are decided on a case by case basis and you will be informed what your fee will be once you have filled out the online application.

As you can see, if you are a resident of Georgia, there is hope. The Georgia Child Support Enforcement Services will provide you with all the help available to them, as they want your child to be cared for just as much as you do. In addition, if you choose one of the more reputable fee based agencies to help you, it may just be worth the fee to finally get this money your child deserves. If they are successful in collecting the money, even with the fee involved, it is more money than you had when you started.

Causes of Hair Loss in Men

Men hair loss is genetic in almost 95% of the cases. It simply means that about 95% of men suffer from "male pattern baldness," also known as "androgenetic alopecia," in medical terms. This kind of balding affects a person generally in the U-shaped edging of hair from ear to ear. It is the most common in most balding men.

Balding is becoming a common trait in men, nowadays. At this point of time, people mostly men have suffered a lot due to their hair loss. In fact, every balding man desires to find relevant solutions that may help him to prevent the hair loss.

Men from ones who have lost their hair completely to the men who are in initial phase of getting nervousness about a newly receding hairline, hair loss prevention are a major concern. On the basis of his hair story, every one is striving hard to get the perfect way to improve the situation. In fact, factors including hair color and texture, and amount of donor hair to work with, primarily affect the procedure of hair restoration surgery.

Prime reasons for causing hair loss in men are heredity, hormones, and age. Also, the genetic makeup of a person determines if hair follicles comes under the sensitive section to the hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Also, the quality of the hair decides if it can cause the shrinking of the hair.

The shrinking of the hair leads to the overall thinning of the hair with each passing time. Aging pays an important role in causing the baldness in males as it can cause weakness in the follicle and consequently the hair shaft. Apart from these primary reasons, there are other reasons that might cause sudden hair loss in men:

1. High level of stress can cause baldness. It may also increase the frequency of losing hair in men.

2. The situation of trauma can be responsible for causing permanent damage to hair follicles.

3. Many times, hair styles that deal with pulled tightly such as braids can cause hair loss in men.

Nowadays, there are numerous ways through which hair restoration can be done quite conveniently. A person needs to choose the best treatment for getting the best results.

Constipation Remedies for Breastfed Babies

If you thumb through most books about breastfeeding, you are not likely to find a section on constipation. This is because true constipation in a fully breastfed baby is very rare. In fact, most experts agree that if a breastfed baby is constipated, there is something medically wrong.

Breast milk is a natural laxative; however a breastfed infant may become constipated due to the introduction of foods or formula. Formula in particular is constipating. If you have recently started giving your baby formula, this may be the reason for the constipation. The single best remedy is simply more breast milk.

Reasons for constipation in a breastfed baby:

1. Illness that requires medical care (call your doctor!)

2. Formula consumption

3. Starting solids

Signs/definition:

1. The American Academy of Family Physicians defines constipation as a delay or difficulty in defecation (pooping) for more than two weeks. In a newborn (less than 6 weeks old), the AAFP recommends that parents contact their physician if their infant has had fewer than five bowel movements per week over a two-week period

2. Hard, pebble-like stools

3. Excessive straining and crying in pain. Some straining, grunting, and fussing is normal. Babies are learning how their bodies work. Grunting, straining, and fussing that results in a soft bowel movement is not constipation and does not need to be treated.

Remedy/Treatment for babies younger than 6 months:

1. If you have been exclusively breastfeeding, call your doctor right away. This could be a sign of a more serious problem and your baby needs to be evaluated by your health care professional. Constipation along with weakness, a weak cry, and reduced eating could indicate botulism. While very rare, this is a life threatening disorder and requires prompt medical care.

2. If you were providing formula as a supplement, but mostly breastfeeding, stop giving the formula and exclusively breastfeed. Cow's milk protein is very irritating to a baby's tummy and intestines. Providing only breast milk will help sooth that irritation.

3. If you have been formula feeding, start breastfeeding (if your baby is less than 2 weeks old) or get the help of an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) to re-lactate. Even if you have never breastfed before, you will most likely be able to produce milk. If breastfeeding is simply not an option for you, use donor breast milk. You can either contact a milk bank (this could be expensive) or you can ask a trusted friend or family member for some of her milk.

Some health care providers discourage using un-processed breast milk since you could be exposing your baby to drugs or illness through the donor milk. However, if you trust this person and their baby is healthy, you most likely have nothing to worry about. This could be a great use for the frozen breast milk of friends who aren't sure what to do with their surplus supply. While you can try an alternate formula, they are not derived from human milk, therefore it is likely the problem will not be solved or could even get worse.

Babies older than 6 months:

1. More breast milk! If you are in the process of weaning, go back up on the number of feedings per day until the problem resolves. Back down on how much food or formula you are giving. See a Registered Dietitian to discuss solid foods that are less constipating for your baby.

2. Time. Usually, constipation will go away without any help from special foods or medications. Although there are over the counter treatments for constipation, talk to your health care provider before using them. Repeated bouts of constipation can be a sign of a more serious problem.

3. If you are certain it is constipation and you have approval from your health care provider, the American Academy of Family Physicians states that "Parents may give infants 1 oz of sorbitol-containing juice (such as prune, pear, or apple) to treat constipation." This should only be given to babies over the age of 6 months.

4. Some health care providers recommend giving corn syrup for constipation. This is not necessary as the other treatment options mentioned will usually work better. However, if you do decide to give your baby corn syrup, put 1 teaspoon in 2 oz. of water. Do not put the syrup directly into formula or pumped breast milk. Corn syrup works by drawing water into the intestines and stimulating the intestine to move stool on through. It is easy to overdo the corn syrup and cause diarrhea and electrolyte imbalance. Both of these problems can be harmful to your baby.

Baby Gift Ideas For The Second (Or Third) Baby

We just recently had our second child, and our friends and family were soon asking 'what can I buy for the new baby'?

To be honest, at first I didn't have a clue... we already had most of the standard baby gear from having had our first child. And being that we had another girl, we already had all the 'girly' stuff on hand. This really got me to thinking, what are some good baby gift ideas for people when they have their second (or third, etc) baby? When they don't need any more 'baby stuff'?

I'm a huge fan of giving baby gifts (so much so that we created an online baby gift store). I like to give gifts that I know will be used and enjoyed, and not become another outfit that they never take the tags off because they already have so many clothes. Here are a few 'non-stuff' baby gift ideas that I came up with.

1. Give the gift of time

A new baby in the house adds more work on top of what is usually an already busy household. Any parent I know would love to have some extra time on their hands, so they can get to those projects that never seem to get done or can perhaps have some rest and relaxation time for themselves. Take the older children out for an afternoon, or offer to come over and cuddle the new baby for a couple of hours. You could even plan to do this once a week for a few weeks until they get settled into a new routine.

Just be sure when you do so, that you make sure that mom actually does go 'away' and take advantage of the gift of time. Knowing moms (and myself!) there is a tendency to stick around the house even when someone is over to help with the kids... and so it doesn't really end up feeling like I got an extra time at all. So you may have to tell mom and dad to 'shoo!' and get out for a while.

2. Give the gift of food

The weekend after my daughter was born my mom did a day of cooking and came over with about 15 frozen homemade meals. All I had to do was defrost, heat and they were ready to eat. This is probably one of my favorite baby gifts ever, as I totally didn't need to think about supper for a good few weeks.

Now you don't need to go ahead and make quite so many meals... one or two meals is plenty. If you aren't a cook perhaps you could bring over a nice meal from a good local restaurant one night. Or maybe arrange for some food from a local meal delivery service. Anything that takes cooking off the 'to-do' list will be hugely appreciated.

3. Give the gift of activity

There are some really great activity classes out there for babies - music classes, swimming lessons, etc. See if you can get a gift certificate for baby to go to one of these classes... they may not enroll right away but it will be great to have for when baby is ready. And I know some of these classes can be a bit expensive for parents, and they may not be able to pay for a class otherwise even though they would love to attend.

4. Give the gift of education

Many people these days are starting education funds for their children. Ask if they have started a fund (or if they plan to do so) and look to see if you can contribute. This is the kind of gift that you know will really be put to use down the road.

5. Give mom and dad a gift!

Busy parents need a treat for themselves too, but they usually don't treat themselves very often. Buy mom a massage, spa day or book her a hair appointment at a great local salon. For dad perhaps tickets to a local sporting event or take him out for an afternoon of golf. Something that allows them to have some regular adult fun and that they normally wouldn't buy for themselves.

This is a great gift to pair with the gift of time... offer to take care of the kids while mom goes to get her massage or dad goes out for a round of golf.

I know, it is really hard to resist buying some of the great baby gifts that are out there. If you really want to buy them 'stuff' as a gift, I recommend checking in with mom first to see what they would use. Chances are they really don't need anymore clothes, blankets, baby towels, or toys to add to what they already have.

For example, we didn't know if we were having a boy or a girl with either of our kids, and so all of my wee baby stuff is yellow and green. After our second daughter was born it would have been really nice to get some pink stuff in those newborn sizes. (but I certainly didn't need any clothes in the larger sizes, we had plenty of that already).

There is nothing better than a new baby, so go ahead and keep on giving... just make sure it is something that will be used and enjoyed.

Baby Shower Decoration Ideas

Have that great looking background for your baby shower by setting up decorations at the party. Keep in mind the amount of money you set aside for the baby shower party. There are many great ways to setup the baby shower decorations. The party can be way more exciting if the host takes a little time and plans the variety of ways the baby shower decorations can be setup.

As a matter of fact, baby Baby shower decorations can be just as the host likes them. They can be plain or very complicated. The way the decorations are setup can make the mom-to-be feel very special. The way a baby shower can be decorated is practically endless.

Well as a party consultant, and as such, am called upon all the time in my chosen career to come up with baby shower ideas. By the time they reach adulthood, most people have plenty of ideas for birthdays, Christmas and other holiday parties, and even for weddings, but there is often a shortage of experience which leads to ideas for baby shower decorations. What I am trying to say is few people really go to more than one or two baby showers in their young life, and many don't even go to any. That is why so much thought has to go into baby shower decorations - more thought than goes in to almost any other kind of party supplies.

When it comes to realization, the first thing that you have to in your baby shower decoration is that people have few expectations, because they probably have not been to too many baby showers in their life. Besides this, if you are a new mother or father, or an expectant one, people will not really expect the type of lavish party that you might throw for, say, your daughters graduation or for your sons first birthday. This means the choices of how elaborate you want your party to be, how much care you wish to take with the decorations, and what themes you want to use are entirely up to you. You can not really go wrong with baby shower decorations as long as you keep them light and tasteful.

We all know that a lot of people however, see this as an opportunity to explore and expand creatively, and as such will really take baby shower decorations to a pretty deep level. They might come up with elaborate ribbons and custom banners, or table settings that are out of this world so that people will remember the beauty and thoroughness of their baby shower decoration. If you are like this, then a party consultant such as myself might be the perfect aid to providing the perfect baby shower. After all, unless you are quite the experienced socialite, you may lack the party experience that is so necessary to coming up with the ideas behind a perfect festival. Anyone can think of all of the standard baby shower decorations - cute little ribbons and bows, napkins with watercolor prints of little infants playing with puppies or sitting in cribs, little baby shaped cakes. But to get a really classy party, one that will be remembered by all your friends for years to come, you must have the perfect baby shower decorations.

There are many great ways to setup the baby shower decorations. The party can be way more exciting if the host takes a little time and plans the variety of ways the baby shower decorations can be setup. Remember that it is not necessary to spend and excessive amount on decorations. Being resourceful and thoughtful will allow decorations to be made that are most memorable. Using a little creativity when getting the party organized prevents the bank account from taking major damage. The simplest of items can be used for decorations. Be resourceful in creating great baby shower decorations that are inexpensive.
